  • my health stuff

I went to a new doctor yesterday. My previous doctor is a great doctor and the drive is lovely and scenic, but takes almost an hour to get there.

So, I chose another doctor that is just down the street, and as it turns out, they are in the same group.

I really like the new doctor. He's not sure that I have a heart-murmur and is kind of starting from scratch.

So I got my blood drawn AGAIN yesterday (it seem like I've had that done so many times in the past few months), but I'm glad, because he ordered even more tests (from that blood draw) and he seems very sharp.

He is an internal medicine person, just like my previous doctor. He has a special interest in coronary issues and has referred me to a vascular surgeon because of some of my symptoms. So, I'm scheduled for a vascular ultrasound on my legs next month. He thinks I might have some issues in my carotid arteries too (instead of a heart murmur) so we'll see how it all pans out. He changed my blood pressure medicine too.

Dang! I did not think all of my conversation would be about my health until I was a little bit older.

Speaking of getting older, I am finally seeing some gray hairs (maybe 4 or 5) and I have to tell you I am absolutely giddy about that.

Seriously. I get excited every time I look in the mirror and see some gray. I've been wondering when it was going to happen. Don says he can't see them, but I definitely do. They sort of glimmer a little differently in the light. Woohoo!

  • good news

Don's doctor finally called today and the results of his blood test show the CLL is progressing slower than his original prognosis indicated it would. Yay!!

    Glory to God!!

There is no need yet for treatment. Yay!

Thank you all for your prayers!

Honestly, as long as his numbers are OK, symptoms don't bother me at all.

  • no news is good news?

Still haven't heard from Don's doctor in Alaska (who ordered the blood tests).

So, we are thinking that's a good sign. We figure if the results were bad, the doctor would have called right away (he is Don's friend as well as his doctor).

Of course, we are still eagerly awaiting the phone call and information, but we think the fact that it has been deferred is a good sign.

  • hello again

My goodness, it's been so long since I posted anything!

We are currently awaiting results of blood tests that Don finally had. He is supposed to have this done every 3 months. It's been 3 years.

In other news, I tried doing a vocal in the studio this evening and my voice was not up to par. I did some research and found out that my blood pressure medicine can cause hoarseness and a raspy voice. I will contact my doctor about changing it.

Also, tonight I did something silly while playing with Joshua and landed on my elbow on the tile floor. Very painful. I'll have to take something to be able to sleep. Oy.

  • rolling veins :-(

I took Joshua to get his blood drawn today. Poor thing was really trying to work up his courage. He would pinch himself in the crook of his arm to try to mentally prepare himself.

They called his name and we went back to the room. Joshua was still trying so hard to mentally prepare as the latex tourniquet was tied on one arm then the other to check his veins. When the time came for the actual puncture though, the phlebotomist quickly realized she would need help holding Joshua's arm still, so she called in a colleague -- another nice young lady.

They held Joshua's left arm (the one deemed best candidate) and I held his other hand and talked to him.

I was so very much hoping it would go quickly, as it does with me. I have veins very conducive to being stuck.

Joshua, sadly, has his daddy's veins. They seem to avoid puncture. They roll. Ugh!! Poor thing!

It took quite a bit of maneuvering under his skin before the needle was able to puncture a vein.  Oh my goodness.

But he was so good. He was crying and not liking it a bit, but stayed brave. I felt SO BAD for him, but maintained my calm. (Thank you, Lord.)

As a reward, we took him to get sushi (his absolute favorite food). We ordered a lemonade for him while waiting for our food. He took a couple of sips and next thing I know he's telling me he does not feel good.

We were the farthest from the bathroom and Joshua is a very slow walker, but, glory to God, we made it in time for him to throw up in the toilet.

He is always so amazing when he's not feeling well. While still standing in front of the toilet he said, (TMI WARNING) "On the bright side, at least it tastes good" (like lemonade).

We went back to the table and I was sitting across from him. I have never seen him look so pale. He had no color in his face except for a little blue on his lips. He also said he felt very cold, so I took him outside to warm up. We sat on a bench for a bit and his color returned.

So we went back in to join daddy and have the sushi which had arrived, and we lived happily ever after.

Phew! Glory to God! Thank you all so much for your prayers!!

About Me

  • Stay-at-home, gentle, AP, unschooling, Christian mama to the most marvelous 8yo boy, who happens to have Tourette syndrome and OCD. My husband is a music producer, musician, and songwriter. Our recording studio has been our livelihood for 16 years. Four years ago, my husband was diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia. After enduring various infections and losing his hearing for a year, his doctor recommended we leave the harsh climate of Alaska. The temporary hearing loss and relocation have been challenging to us financially, but God has provided through it all. Since our studio is in our home, the three of us spend almost all our time together. :-) Glory to God for all things.
